About Base64 Encode / Decode

Base64 is a binary-to-text encoding scheme that represents binary data as a sequence of printable ASCII characters. It is widely used to embed images in HTML and CSS (data URIs), transmit binary data in JSON or XML, encode email attachments (MIME), and safely pass binary data through systems that only support text.

How to use

Encode or decode in a few steps:

  • Choose Encode or Decode mode.
  • Select Standard or URL-safe Base64 (URL-safe replaces + and / with - and _ and drops padding).
  • For encoding: type text or drop a file. The result updates live.
  • For decoding: paste a Base64 string or data URI. Text results appear immediately; binary results offer a download button.
  • Copy the result or download the decoded file.

Private by design

All encoding and decoding runs locally in your browser using built-in JavaScript APIs. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
